If Xeno won't open and Windows shows an error like "VCRUNTIME140.dll was not found" or "MSVCP140.dll is missing", you need the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. The official Xeno tutorial confirms this is a required dependency for the executor to launch [citation:2][citation:5].
Which Version to Download
You need the Visual C++ 2015–2022 Redistributable. Even if you have a 64-bit Windows, install both the x64 and x86 packages — many apps still use 32-bit libraries, and the x86 package is often the missing piece [citation:10][citation:11].
Use these official Microsoft links directly:
Download x64 (64-bit) Download x86 (32-bit)
These are permanent links to the latest supported versions from Microsoft [citation:1][citation:8].
Installation Steps
- Download both
vc_redist.x64.exeandvc_redist.x86.exe. - Run the x64 installer first. Accept the license and let it finish.
- Run the x86 installer next. If it says a newer version is already installed, that is fine — continue.
- Restart your PC. This is required for the DLLs to register properly [citation:13].
- Launch Xeno as Administrator and try again.
Do not download individual DLL files from random websites. Single DLL downloads are a common malware vector and often don't fix the problem because the DLL depends on other files in the same package. Always use the official Microsoft installer [citation:6][citation:11].
Already Installed but Still Getting the Error?
If the package shows in your installed apps but Xeno still complains, the installation may be corrupted. Repair it:
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64).
- Click the three dots → Modify → Repair.
- Repeat for the x86 version if present.
- Restart your PC and try Xeno again [citation:10][citation:14].
Still not opening? The next dependency is the .NET Desktop Runtime. Install that too, then retry. If Xeno opens but won't attach, see Xeno Not Attaching.
